kuching’s first equinox

Side talk: There is either an equinox (autumn and spring) or a solstice (summer and winter) on approximately the 21st day of the last month of every quarter of the calendar year.

Sarawak - Truly Asia! With a potpourri of Chinese, Malays, Dayaks, and Indians, this is a place where I truly call home. This is a place where you can meet the friendliest people on earth, the most livable place, and most importantly a shopping paradise. With another 18 days to go, I will set my foot again on the soil which I have stood for 18 years. The whole experience and scenario will be very different for this Chinese New Year season. Spring has came to live and Boulevard is now a hot avenue in Kuching! Boulevard, located at 4th Mile, which is very near to my house was opened on 22nd December 2007. The Spring, located at Simpang Tiga, which is not very near to my house was opened on 10th January 2008 (on the day I write this post)! A few years ago, conversations with my friends sounded like this:

Friend: Daniel, want to go out tonight? Daniel: Huh? Where to? Friend: Hui Sing Garden or Pasar or Padugan or Taman Kereta… Daniel (frown): These places again… Friend: Yalah, only these few places… Daniel: Ok la. You pick a place and we all meet there.

This upcoming comeback to Kuching, things are going to be different:

Friend: Daniel, want to go out tonight? Daniel: Sure! We can drink kopi at Airport, or go watch lengluis at the Spring or Boulevard. Friend: Man, great idea! Daniel (excited): Kuching finally can stand as tall as Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru!!! Friend: Yalah, finally Kuching got hope! Daniel: We are proud to be Sarawakian, especially Kuchingites. Friend: Yeah! Bachelors on the run! Daniel: See you guys tonight!

Citizens of Kuching have a lot of reasons to rejoice and be happy! For 18 years, my mum and dad have been buying our family needs at Saberkas, Tun Jugah, Everise, Upwell, Crowne Plaza, Sarawak Plaza, and etcetera. All these while, we have been eating at kopitiam and stall because there were not much choices. All these while, I have been so determined that no way am I going to buy new clothes in Kuching because of the snail-pace fashion. Things are different now! Development is coming to town! Just for your information, my house is the best place to live. It is just a stone throw to Kuching International Airport, a two stone throw to Hospital Sentosa and mental hospital, a three stone throw to Boulevard and Bus Station, a four stone throw to my former Green Road Secondary School and St Paul Primary School, and a five stone stone to the heart of Kuching as well as the outskirts of Kuching. More updates on Kuching when I spend my three weeks holiday at home. With my new Sony Ericsson W850i and my faithful Canon Powershot A450 I will be able to grab a few good sights to share with my Peninsula Malaysia’s friends. I managed to find two bloggers from Kuching who also blogged about Kuching, they are Wombok and Apple.

Side talk: Guys, really sorry for the lack of updates. My study is killing me and I have quite a number of meetings to attend each week. On another end, I have earned RM1.75 in three weeks time from my nuffnang advertisements. I’ve just changed to a new Dilectio theme because the previous CleanJS theme sucks!

Hello, thanks for visiting my blog and glad to know that you’re from Kuching too. My house is located at 4 1/2 mile, maybe quite near to yours, lol. Anyway, hope you enjoy your stay back home in Kuching. Be sure to take some great photos in both Boulevard and The Spring. I might visit The Spring this weekend. Am working today so can’t visit The Spring during its grand opening. =)

    Apple,
I’m staying somewhere near the Airport. Too bad I can only visit these two places in another 2 weeks time. Do keep me up to date!

    Alvin,
Didn’t know you did you practical there. You forgot to mention the FOOD! ^^

    Anna,
Better save some money! It’s not that expensive and not that cheap to travel to Kuching.

    wombok,
Welcome. Things are definitely changing for the better. The purchasing power is getting stronger. You could tell from the huge crowd jamming Sushi King. Haha.

    Colourfulworld,
Sarawakians are united and they have a great sense of belonging. There’ll be lots of updates after CNY provided I can finish my First Evaluation report. Heard that our First Evaluation is during 18-22 February.

    headsteadi,
I am currently doing my masters study in Johor, south of West M’sia. Read from your blog that you’ve just been to Bali. Bali is a nice place for a holiday!

Good for kuching-ites, and for us Bintulu-ans, we tumpang gembira la. At least now can talk about kuching. Ha ha ha.

If you have RM 1.75, how much would I be having IF I serve nuffnang? - Maybe next time :)

  9. chou-yu Says:

  10. robin Says:

Man I miss Kuching so much, mainly for the foooooooddddd…

But yeah, its awesome to see developments. Finally after being stagnant for so long, we have new malls opening up.

Too bad im not around when all the hoo hoo and haa haas happen.

  11. daniel Says:

    cibol,
Bersama-samalah kitak bergembira. Bout serving nuffnang, I am not actually wanting to earn huge some of income from this blog. I just take it as a side income.

    chou-yu,
Don’t be so down. I will update you on the development of Kuching once I go back. That’s the least I can do for you. Do update us on your life in the United States. Have you met any Hollywood stars?

    robin,
I will hoo hoo and haa haa on your behalf.
